Community Spotlight: Juliet Italian Kitchen

I can remember coming home in 2nd grade and asking my parents if they had a SAM’s club membership. As a precursor to Amazon arbitrage today, I recognized an opportunity to purchase candy at a discount and sell it to wanting schoolmates.

My parents did have a membership and, even better, were willing to help. So, off to Sam’s we went with my jar full of change and dreams of profits dancing in my head. With that, my first business was off the ground. It took less than a month to encounter my first significant business obstacle - the long arm of regulation. As it turned out, the school administration did not look favorably upon this entrepreneurial venture and brought it to an immediate halt. They confiscated the candy and even the earnings I had accumulated. Thankfully the cash was returned to me, but every now and then I wonder what became of the candy.

I have always had an interest in business and not just my own. I enjoy hearing of others business endeavors, and get especially excited when I have the opportunity to hear how someone’s vision has turned into their reality. Here, I’m trying to bring that excitement to my audience with the goal of supporting their businesses and the hope that others will share similar stories with me.

I am excited to share some news from a local community business Juliet Italian Kitchen.  Both Donna and Dan Wilkins are long time, successful entrepreneurs.  Their first Juliet launched on the site of what was once Romeo’s on Barton Springs.  Their success has helped them launch a second location in the Austin Arboretum.  I have had the opportunity of dining at both, and would highly recommend either of them.
